Report: White Sox make offer to Machado, in contact with Harper
The Chicago White Sox have made a contract offer to free-agent infielder Manny Machado, Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY Sports reports.
While the club is also said to be in constant contact with Bryce Harper, Chicago is more engaged with Machado at the moment, Nightengale adds on Thursday.
The White Sox met with Machado two weeks ago and are reportedly willing to offer Harper a long-term contract, but they're expected to receive stiff competition from the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Yankees for both players.
After agreeing to a two-year deal with right-hander David Robertson on Thursday, the Phillies are shifting their focus to Machado and Harper, reports Nightengale, who adds that rival teams believe Philadelphia will make the highest offer to each.
Joel Sherman of the New York Post reported last week that both superstars prefer to play for the Yankees.
