Patrick Corbin is reportedly headed to D.C.

The Washington Nationals have agreed to a six-year deal with the free-agent left-hander, a source told Chelsea Janes of the Washington Post.

The deal is reportedly worth $140 million, sources told Jon Heyman of Fancred Sports, and is expected to include some deferred money, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.

Completion of the deal is also reportedly pending a physical.

Corbin chose Washington over offers from the New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies. The Yankees refused to give Corbin more than a five-year contract, Jon Morosi of MLB.com reported, citing sources; their final offer to him reportedly came in at $100 million over five seasons, according to Heyman.

Philadelphia's final offer to Corbin was also only for five years, Heyman added.

Corbin joins what projects to be a dominant Nationals rotation in an increasingly competitive NL East. It's also an expensive rotation, as the contracts of Washington's top three starters - Corbin, Max Scherzer, and Stephen Strasburg - are worth a combined $525 million.

The 29-year-old Corbin is a two-time All-Star who spent his career to date with the Arizona Diamondbacks. This past season was the best of his six-year career, as he averaged over 10 strikeouts per nine innings for the first time while ranking seventh among pitchers in wins above replacement. For his efforts, Corbin finished fifth in NL Cy Young voting.

Corbin rejected the Diamondbacks' qualifying offer earlier this winter, meaning that Arizona will receive a compensatory draft pick after the first round in the 2019 MLB Draft.
