The Washington Nationals are in serious trade discussions with the Cleveland Indians about catcher Yan Gomes, sources told The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal on Friday.
The teams are "deep into" talks about a deal for the 31-year-old backstop, sources confirmed to Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports.
The New York Mets reportedly also discussed a Gomes trade with the Indians.
If Washington acquired him, Gomes would share catching duties with Kurt Suzuki, who signed a two-year contract with the Nationals on Nov. 20.
Gomes hit .266/.313/.449 with 16 home runs and 48 RBIs in 112 games last season.
Four catchers combined to hit .214/.304/.320 for the Nationals in 2018.
