Arenado, Betts highlight 2018 Gold Glove winners

The 2018 Gold Glove awards were handed out Sunday, and a mix of old and new faces took home this year's honor.

Gold Gloves are awarded after receiving votes cast from managers and coaches (75 percent), along with SABR-developed metrics (25 percent).

Here are this year's winners.

AL Catcher

Winner: Salvador Perez, Kansas City Royals (5th Gold Glove)

Runners-up: Martin Maldonado, Yan Gomes

Did you know? This is Perez's fifth Gold Glove in the last six years. He's the fifth catcher to win at least five Gold Gloves in the American League, and first since Hall of Famer Ivan Rodriguez.

AL First Base

Winner: Matt Olson, Oakland Athletics (1st Gold Glove)

Runners-up: Justin Smoak, Mitch Moreland

Did you know? Olson was one of just seven players in baseball who appeared in all 162 games this season. He started all but 10 of those games.

AL Second Base

Winner: Ian Kinsler, Boston Red Sox (2nd Gold Glove)

Runners-up: Jed Lowrie, Rougned Odor

Did you know? Kinsler, who began 2018 with the Los Angeles Angels, is the first Red Sox player to win a Gold Glove after joining the team midseason.

AL Third Base

Winner: Matt Chapman, Oakland Athletics (1st Gold Glove)

Runners-up: Jose Ramirez, Alex Bregman

Did you know? Chapman's 29 defensive runs saved led all major-league fielders this season, regardless of position.

AL Shortstop

Winner: Andrelton Simmons, Los Angeles Angels (4th Gold Glove)

Runners-up: Francisco Lindor, Marcus Semien

Did you know? Simmons is the first Angel to win consecutive Gold Gloves with the team since outfielder Torii Hunter in 2008 and '09.

AL Left Field

Winner: Alex Gordon, Kansas City Royals (6th Gold Glove)

Runners-up: Brett Gardner, Andrew Benintendi

Did you know? Gordon's six Gold Gloves are the second most in Royals history, trailing only Frank White, who won eight.

AL Center Field

Winner: Jackie Bradley Jr., Boston Red Sox (1st Gold Glove)

Runners-up: Mike Trout, Adam Engel

Did you know? Bradley's 28 outfield assists since 2016 are the most among AL center fielders.

AL Right Field

Winner: Mookie Betts, Boston Red Sox (3rd Gold Glove)

Runners-up: Aaron Judge, Kole Calhoun

Did you know? Betts and Bradley are only the third Red Sox outfielders to win Gold Gloves in the same season, and the first since Dwight Evans and Fred Lynn in 1979.

AL Pitcher

Winner: Dallas Keuchel, Houston Astros (4th Gold Glove)

Runners-up: Corey Kluber, Masahiro Tanaka

Did you know? Keuchel joins Craig Biggio, Cesar Cedeno, and Doug Rader as the only Astros to win at least four Gold Gloves with the team.

NL Catcher

Winner: Yadier Molina, St. Louis Cardinals (9th Gold Glove)

Runners-up: Buster Posey, Manny Pina

Did you know? Only Hall of Famers Johnny Bench (10) and Ivan Rodriguez (13) have won more Gold Gloves at catcher than Molina.

NL First Base

Winners: Anthony Rizzo, Chicago Cubs (2nd Gold Glove) and Freddie Freeman, Atlanta Braves (1st Gold Glove)

Runner-up: Joey Votto

Did you know? This is only the fourth tie in the history of the Gold Glove awards, and the first since pitchers Jake Peavy and Jeremy Hellickson were named co-winners at their position in 2012.

NL Second Base

Winner: DJ LeMahieu, Colorado Rockies (3rd Gold Glove)

Runners-up: Javier Baez, Kolten Wong

Did you know? LeMahieu emerged from a crowded field of excellent defensive second basemen to become the first repeat winner at the keystone since Brandon Phillips in 2010 and '11.

NL Third Base

Winner: Nolan Arenado, Colorado Rockies (6th Gold Glove)

Runners-up: Anthony Rendon, Travis Shaw

Did you know? Arenado is the seventh third baseman in history to own at least six Gold Gloves, and he joins Hall of Famer Mike Schmidt as the only players to win at least six straight Gold Glove awards at the hot corner. He's also the first player since 1957 (when the award was established) to win Gold Gloves in each of his first six major-league seasons.

NL Shortstop

Winner: Nick Ahmed, Arizona Diamondbacks (1st Gold Glove)

Runners-up: Freddy Galvis, Brandon Crawford

Did you know? Ahmed, the first Diamondbacks shortstop to win a Gold Glove, snapped Crawford's three-year hold on this award.

NL Left Field

Winner: Corey Dickerson, Pittsburgh Pirates (1st Gold Glove)

Runners-up: Adam Duvall, Christian Yelich

Did you know? Last year, Dickerson, then with the Rays, made less than 100 appearances in left field and was a below-average defender (minus-1 defensive runs saved). In 2018, only he and Gordon, the AL winner, produced more than 10 DRS in left field.

NL Center Field

Winner: Ender Inciarte, Atlanta Braves (3rd Gold Glove)

Nominees: Lorenzo Cain, Billy Hamilton

Did you know? Inciarte is the first Braves player to win three consecutive Gold Gloves since Andruw Jones won it in 10 straight seasons from 1998-2007.

NL Right FIeld

Winner: Nick Markakis, Atlanta Braves (3rd Gold Glove)

Nominees: Jon Jay, Jason Heyward

Did you know? Markakis, Freeman, and Inciarte give the Braves three Gold Glove winners in the same season for the first time ever.

NL Pitcher

Winner: Zack Greinke, Arizona Diamondbacks (5th Gold Glove)

Nominees: Clayton Richard, Julio Teheran

Did you know? Greinke is the first pitcher to win five straight Gold Gloves since Greg Maddux - who won this award 18 times - earned five in a row from 2004-08.

All 19 Gold Glove winners are now eligible to win the 2018 Platinum Glove award, which is given to the best overall defensive player in each league. The Platinum Glove winners will be announced Thursday.
