Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora announced that right-hander Rick Porcello will start Game 3 of the World Series on Friday at Dodger Stadium.

Porcello gets the nod after Nathan Eovaldi, who had been the presumptive Game 3 starter, appeared as a reliever in both of the opening games in Boston.

Cora did say that Eovaldi could "maybe" start Game 4, but added that he'd consider using him again in relief on Friday if he was needed for a win in the eighth inning, according to Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe.

Game 3 will mark Porcello's first career World Series start. His only previous appearance in the Fall Classic came back in 2012, when he tossed one inning of relief for the Detroit Tigers.

The 29-year-old has pitched in four games for the Red Sox during this year's postseason, compiling a 4.22 ERA and six strikeouts. His most recent appearance was a start in Game 4 of the ALCS against Houston, when he allowed four runs on seven hits in four innings of work.

Walker Buehler will start Game 3 for the Los Angeles Dodgers, who trail Boston 2-0 in the best-of-seven series after losing 4-2 on Wednesday.
