University of Oregon student Justin Gallegos has become the first Nike-sponsored professional athlete with cerebral palsy after signing a contract with the brand.

"I was once a kid in leg braces who could barely put (one) foot in front of the other! Now I have signed a three-year contract with Nike Running!" Gallegos, a junior on Oregon's track and field club team, wrote on Instagram. "Trust the process!"

Gallegos competed in his first-ever half marathon - the Eugene Half Marathon - in April while wearing a prototype Nike shoe designed specifically for runners with disabilities.
