Justin Gallegos was born with cerebral palsy, but he didn't let that stop him from competing in the Eugene Half Marathon on Sunday.
Gallegos, a sophomore on the University of Oregon's track and field club team, completed the 13.1 miles in two hours, three minutes, and 49 seconds while wearing a prototype shoe designed by Nike for runners with disabilities.
"It opens around the back, with a zipper, for an easy entry point for people with disabilities," Gallegos' father, Brent Gallegos, told Brady Wakayama of KEZI 9 News.
This was the first half marathon Gallegos has ever competed in, and while he didn't meet his goal of finishing under two hours, he wrote on Instagram that he's "still very proud of (his) performance."
