The New Orleans Saints have apparently found Drew Brees' heir apparent.

The New York Jets have traded quarterback Teddy Bridgewater to New Orleans for a 2019 third-round pick, New York announced Wednesday. The Saints will also receive a 2019 sixth-rounder.

Bridgewater apparently found out about the trade in dramatic fashion:

Rookie Sam Darnold will reportedly start for the Jets with Bridgewater departing to New Orleans.

Meanwhile, the Saints get a backup capable of keeping the team's Super Bowl aspirations alive if Brees were to get injured, while also getting a passer who could potentially succeed the franchise quarterback.

Brees is currently under contract through 2019 after signing a two-year extension worth a reported $50 million this offseason.

Bridgewater has impressed during the preseason, proving he's fully recovered from the gruesome 2016 knee injury that almost cost him his leg. He has thrown for 316 yards with two touchdowns and one interception over three games while completing 28 of 38 passes.
