Everton completed a flurry of signings in the final minutes of the transfer window Thursday, as the club landed Portuguese international Andre Gomes on loan from Barcelona for a fee of €2.25 million.

That move follows last-minute acquisitions of Colombian defender Yerry Mina and Brazilian winger Bernard.

Gomes, who made his senior debut with Benfica in 2012, first moved to Barcelona in 2016 after two seasons at fellow La Liga side Valencia. Deployed in a number of positions in midfield as well as rare stints at right-back, the versatile 25-year-old failed to find a consistent role with the Blaugrana, and missed stretches of last season with injuries.

Though only a temporary exchange for next season, Gomes has publicly admitted his discontent with playing at the Catalan club. In March, the Portuguese midfielder referred to his Barcelona tenure as "a kind of hell" and confessed he didn't want to leave his house at times due to ongoing jeering from Barcelona fans.

The move to Merseyside reconnects Gomes with a familiar face in Marco Silva. The Toffees boss managed Primeira Liga outfit Estoril during Gomes' time with Benfica.

Gomes was a member of Portugal's Euro 2016 winning side, though he didn't feature in the final against France.
