World Cup holder Germany stunned by Mexico in Group F opener
Germany fell to a surprise loss in Sunday's scuffle with Mexico after Hirving Lozano took advantage of the reigning World Cup champion's susceptibility to counter-attacks in the opening half.
El Tri broke into a huge gulf between Germany's midfield and defence on numerous occasions during the match, but also had the European giant's wastefulness and Guillermo Ochoa's goalkeeping to credit for a huge 1-0 win.
Each of the 10 German outfield players to start the game in Moscow recorded an effort at goal, and even Manuel Neuer was searching for his own shot near the end when he joined the attack.

But Juan Carlos Osorio's Mexico had raised the barricades to support the manager's pre-tournament forecast of reaching the final. The team dug in defensively, but poured bodies upfield when required. It was a complete performance, and a tactical masterclass from Osorio.
This result could radically change the complexion of the World Cup. Mexico is now atop Group F, where it would likely avoid overwhelming Group E favourite Brazil in the round of 16. Should Brazil finish in first place of its quartet as expected, it will take on the second-placed team in Group F.
The other teams in Group F, Sweden and South Korea, begin their respective World Cup forays on Monday.
