Liverpool confirms Can, Flanagan are set to leave club
Emre Can and Jon Flanagan will leave Liverpool when their respective contracts expire this summer, the club confirmed Friday.
Juventus chief executive Giuseppe Marotta expects Can to sign for the Italian side before the World Cup begins, while Flanagan's career on Merseyside appeared to be over after he pleaded guilty in January to assaulting his girlfriend.
Can joined Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen in 2014, making 167 appearances for the Reds in all competitions. He started 24 times in the past Premier League season as he dealt with injuries and constant speculation about his future.
Flanagan emerged from the Reds' youth setup to make his professional debut against Manchester City in 2011, and became a full England international in 2014. He last played for the Championship's Bolton Wanderers on loan, with his final outing for the Trotters coming in a 2-0 defeat at Burton Albion in April.
Academy players Toni Gomes, Paulo Alves, Mich'el Parker, Jordan Williams, Anthony Glennon, Jordan Hunter, and Harvey Whyte will also depart upon the expiration of their deals. Yan Dhanda opted to sign for Swansea City on a free transfer.
George Johnston and Conor Masterson, both part of the under-23 fold, were offered new contracts.
