Report: Edelman facing 4-game suspension for PEDs

Stew Milne-USA TODAY Sports

New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman is facing a four-game suspension for violating the NFL's performance-enhancing drugs policy, sources told Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Edelman will appeal the suspension, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The veteran wide receiver is slated to lose approximately $1 million in salary as a result of the suspension.

Edelman, who turned 32 in May, missed all of the 2017 season due to a torn ACL. He's been a participant in team drills throughout the offseason and is progressing toward being medically cleared for Week 1.

A favorite target of quarterback Tom Brady, Edelman recorded 1,106 receiving yards and three touchdowns in 2016, and he made a key late-game catch during the Patriots' Super Bowl LI win over the Atlanta Falcons.

The Patriots face the Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars, Detroit Lions, and Miami Dolphins to open the 2018 regular season.
