Two of the newest members of the Detroit Tigers organization have been nominated for one of the most prestigious awards in amateur baseball.

Auburn right-hander Casey Mize, who was drafted first overall by Detroit on Monday, and Texas infielder Kody Clemens, the team's third-round selection, were both announced Wednesday as two of the four finalists for this year's Golden Spikes Award, given annually by USA Baseball to the best amateur player in the country.

Florida right-hander Brady Singer, who was selected 18th overall by the Kansas City Royals, and Andrew Vaughn, a sophomore first baseman at the University of California, rounded out the four finalists.

Mize's nomination continues an amazing rise in stock for the right-hander, who went from being passed over in high school to being made this year's No. 1 choice. The 21-year-old posted a 2.95 ERA for Auburn in 2018 and his 151 strikeouts led the Southeastern Conference. He's only the fourth Auburn player to ever be nominated for the award.

Clemens, whose father is pitching legend and perennial Hall of Fame candidate Roger Clemens, broke out during his junior season at Texas to hit .344/.432/.700. His power also spiked significantly this year, launching 21 homers while driving in 67.

Singer made the list of Golden Spikes finalists after a solid season for Florida, though he slipped all the way to 18th in the draft after being touted as a potential high first-round pick. Vaughn, who will be draft-eligible next June, hit a blistering .403 during his second NCAA campaign at Cal.

The Golden Spikes Award winner will be announced during a ceremony in Los Angeles on June 28.
