Arsenal is reportedly set to kick off a surprise move for Manchester United midfield beanstalk Marouane Fellaini.
Fellaini's current terms at United are set to lapse, and after rejecting a pair of offers to remain at Old Trafford, the Telegraph's Luke Edwards reports that Arsenal is keen to secure the 30-year-old Belgian's services.
A towering midfield presence, who's also been thrown up front as a makeshift forward by Red Devils gaffers Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho, Fellaini's fifth season in Manchester saw the generously coiffed right-footer make just 16 league appearances as he wrestled with a recurring knee issue.
According to Edwards, Arsenal officials and Fellaini will meet next week, and the Standard Liege academy product would prefer the north London digs to a move to AC Milan.
Fellaini moved to United on a £27.5-million switch from Everton in 2013 as the Red Devils ushered in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era with former Toffees boss David Moyes. Fellaini could again be part of a regime change as freshly minted Arsenal boss Unai Emery is understood to have entertained the prospect of luring Fellaini to the French capital whilst at the helm of Paris Saint-Germain.
A potential move for Fellaini would surely mark the end of Jack Wilshere's long-serving Arsenal tenure, with the England man's current deal also set to expire.
