Wales captain and Everton centre-back Ashley Williams revealed he suffered a punctured lung during an international friendly against Mexico on Tuesday.
Williams collided with El Tri striker Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez during the goalless draw and was removed shortly after the 20-minute mark. The 33-year-old also suffered "multiple breaks" on two ribs.
"Crazy couple of weeks. Great to be back in a FA Wales shirt and with the lads," Williams posted on his Facebook page.
"However after coming off after 20 minutes with multiple breaks on two ribs, I went to hospital and found out I had punctured my left lung which led to it collapsing."
He added: "Look forward to flying home and resting up now before the new season."
Wales failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia after finishing third in Group A behind Serbia and the Republic of Ireland.
