Roma will reportedly ask Liverpool to pay a world-record fee for a goalkeeper to get Alisson.

The capital club is expected to hold out for an offer of around €90 million (£79 million) to release the spectacular shot-stopper, according to the Guardian's Fabrizio Romano and Sachin Nakrani, complicating Liverpool's pursuit in the aftermath of Loris Karius' humiliating Champions League performance.

Any deal is unlikely to happen until after the World Cup, at which Alisson is set to star for his native Brazil.

The Reds seem to have revived their interest in Alisson following Karius' calamitous errors in last weekend's final against Real Madrid. Manager Jurgen Klopp had apparently considered a move for the Brazilian earlier in the season, but ultimately decided to hand Karius the mantle until the end of the campaign.

It's unclear whether Roma's valuation will put off Liverpool. The Telegraph's Chris Bascombe reported on Monday that Klopp is reluctant to spend big on any goalkeeper other than the 25-year-old.

However, Roma is still being criticised for the sale of Mohamed Salah to the Merseyside outfit last year, making it unlikely to sanction yet another big departure for a nominal fee.

The capital side is also ready to offer Alisson more lucrative wages than his current €1.5 million (£1.3 million) per season, Romano and Nakrani add.

Liverpool has already begun spending some of the money it earned from its deep Champions League run, splashing a mooted €45 million (£39 million) to secure the signing of midfielder Fabinho from AS Monaco. Lyon playmaker Nabil Fekir is said to be on the club's radar, as well.
