Three Lions veterans Joe Hart and Jack Wilshere have reportedly been omitted from Gareth Southgate's England squad for the upcoming World Cup in Russia.
Per the Guardian's Dominic Fifield and Daniel Taylor, both Hart and Wilshere were notified by the manager ahead of Wednesday's official squad announcement.
Without Hart, England's most experienced player, it appears Southgate will opt for a three-man unit of Jack Butland, Jordan Pickford, and newcomer Nick Pope between the sticks. Capped 75 times by England, the 31-year-old Hart has witnessed his career take a step back after successive underwhelming loans with Torino and West Ham.
This season, the Manchester City product appeared in 19 Premier League matches, splitting the duties with Spaniard Adrian, and with a return to the Etihad Stadium unlikely, Hart's career languishes in footballing limbo.
For Wilshere, injury concerns continue to plague a once-blossoming career. The Arsenal midfielder was on the outside looking in after a broken leg ended a shock season-long loan with Bournemouth, and since then, the 26-year-old has started just a dozen league matches. He hasn't played for England since Euro 2016.
Southgate expressed hesitation in recalling Wilshere to the England fold as a result of recurring injuries before the Stevenage-born Gunner was called up for a pair of friendlies - both of which he missed with an ankle knock.
