Mohamed Salah has joined some esteemed company.

The Egyptian attacker bagged his 31st goal of the Premier League campaign in Liverpool's 2-2 draw with West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, equalling a scoring record previously shared by Alan Shearer, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Luis Suarez across a 38-game season.

The most goals ever netted in a single term is 34 - first reached by Andy Cole in 1993-94, and matched by Shearer a season later - but that total was tallied in a campaign of 42 matches.

The latest victim of Salah, who joined Liverpool from Roma last summer, was the league's bottom-placed club. He peeled off the West Brom defence after 72 minutes, before confidently lifting the ball over goalkeeper Ben Foster.

Salah was then substituted to a rapturous reception from the Hawthorns' away end after 84 minutes.

His fortunes couldn't have been more different than the man who claimed Liverpool's opener only four minutes into the weekend's early kick-off. Danny Ings was making just his second start under Jurgen Klopp amid a string of injury issues, and registered on the scoresheet for the first time in 930 days.

West Brom, putting in another battling display under caretaker boss Darren Moore, halved the deficit when Jake Livermore converted from close range five minutes before Salah's withdrawal. Salomon Rondon then equalised for the Baggies on 88 minutes, but they were unable to complete an improbable comeback victory to keep their chances of survival alive.

There are now nine points left to play for this season, but West Brom is eight points adrift of safety. Swansea City, sitting above the dotted line in 17th, also has two games in hand.

The Reds, meanwhile, are already out of the FA Cup, and Manchester City has wrapped up the Premier League title, but they are still on the hunt for honours in the Champions League. Jurgen Klopp's breathless bunch will welcome Roma to Anfield on Tuesday for the first leg of their semi-final meeting.
