Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll expects the absence of star safety Earl Thomas from voluntary offseason workouts not to linger into the mandatory portion come the summer.

"He's a Seahawk," Carroll told 950 KJR in Seattle on Thursday. " ... Heck yeah, he better be there. He's on the roster. We're counting on him."

The soon-to-be 29-year-old Thomas has made it no secret that he wants a new contract ahead of what's currently scheduled to be the final year of his deal.

The anchor of the Seahawks' longtime "Legion of Boom" for several years, Thomas has openly questioned whether he has a long-term future in Seattle since the later stages of the 2017 season.

Thomas is a six-time Pro Bowler, but the combination of his age and Seattle's apparent plan to rebuild leaves both parties in a tricky situation.
