With the 2018 NFL Draft only a week away, the Denver Broncos moved themselves into the middle of the national conversation Thursday as John Elway announced that the team is open to trading the fifth overall selection.

Since a number of quarterbacks are expected to be selected within the first five picks, the Broncos will likely receive a number of offers from teams that need a top-level passer. The Buffalo Bills and Arizona Cardinals are among the organizations rumored to be interested in trading up for a quarterback.

The Bills currently hold the 12th overall pick, with the Cardinals three behind them at No. 15.

Elway also said the Broncos may stay at the No. 5 slot and draft the best available player at any position.

Denver addressed its short-term need for a starting pivot by signing Case Keenum in the offseason, but could still opt to take the passer of the future at No. 5.

Coming off a 5-11 season, the Broncos have a number of holes to fill on the roster, and could decide they're better served by trading out and accumulating a number of selections.
