Report: Rams plan to sign Cooks to extension before season
The Los Angeles Rams reportedly don't want to risk losing a star receiver after just one season for the second year in a row.
The Rams plan to sign the recently acquired Brandin Cooks to an extension before the start of the 2018 season, a team source told Steve Wyche of NFL Network.
Cooks will carry a cap hit of roughly $8.5 million in 2018 and is due to become a free agent at the end of the season. Wyche adds that Cooks is part of the Rams' long-term plan.
The Rams acquired receiver Sammy Watkins and a sixth-round pick from the Buffalo Bills last summer in exchange for cornerback E.J. Gaines and a second-round draft choice.
He spent just one year in L.A., catching 39 passes for 593 yards and eight touchdowns. He signed with the Kansas City Chiefs on a reported three-year, $48-million contract this offseason.
