C.J. Anderson's future with the Denver Broncos remains up in the air.

General manager John Elway didn't mention specifics, but his comments Sunday indicate Anderson could don a different jersey next season.

"He may or may not," Elway told Mike Klis of 9News when asked if Anderson would be back in Denver. "Who knows? We're going to continue to massage this thing and try and figure out what’s best and gives us the best opportunity to win football games."

Anderson, 27, topped the 1,000-yard mark for the first time in his career last season while rushing for 4.1 yards-per-carry. The Broncos, though, have two younger, cheaper backs waiting in the wings in Devontae Booker and De'Angelo Henderson. That, coupled with the team's six picks in the first four rounds of the NFL draft, could spell the end of Anderson's tenure in Denver.

"C.J. obviously had a great year for us last year. We'll see where that takes us," Elway added. "Obviously, there’s a lot of moving parts to it when you talk about the (salary) cap and all those type things, too, so we'll continue to work on it and see what happens."

Anderson is slated to earn $4.5 million in 2018 and 2019.
