The San Francisco 49ers and four-time Pro Bowl cornerback Richard Sherman have reached an agreement on a three-year contract, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Terms of the deal were not officially disclosed by the 49ers, but Sherman's contract is worth $39 million, with a $5 million signing bonus, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Sherman was released by the Seattle Seahawks Friday after spending the first seven years of his career with the organization. He took it in his stride, noting he had the lowest passer rating allowed since entering the league in 2011, while quoting Drake's "Diplomatic Immunity".

"I'm excited," Sherman said of the agreement in a text to NFL Network's Steve Wyche. "A lot of HOF DBs have gone through this incredible organization and I am looking to uphold that standard."

The star cornerback was an integral part of Seattle's vaunted secondary, nicknamed "The Legion of Boom", helping the franchise record its lone Super Bowl victory in 2013. Seattle led the NFL in scoring defense from 2012-15 in large part due to Sherman's shutdown ability, featuring almost exclusively at left cornerback. Sherman was named to four consecutive Pro Bowls from 2013-16, three straight first-team All-Pro selections from 2012-2014, and led the NFL in interceptions during the 2013 season.

Sherman's Seahawks were the nemesis of the 49ers for years, with the NFC West rivals vying for divisional supremacy for the vast majority of his career. The cornerback drew national attention after defeating the 49ers in the 2013 NFC Championship Game, claiming he was the best cornerback in the NFL during a famous post-game interview.

If the Seahawks-49ers rivalry needed a renewal, Sherman heading to the Bay Area could well be the flame that reignites the incendiary feud.
