Defensive backs explode during the 40

A host of defensive backs took aim at John Ross' 40-yard dash record of 4.22 seconds on the final day of the combine.
LSU's Donte Jackson was the prime contender to take down Ross, but fell short, posting an official time of 4.32 seconds. Potential top 10 pick Denzel Ward also hit the exact same mark, likely securing his place among the draft's top prospects.
Safeties Minkah Fitzpatrick and Derwin James had blistering unofficial times of 4.47 and 4.48, respectively.

Roger Goodell said Monday morning on Twitter that he intended to run the 40-yard dash at the NFL office in New York in support of NFL Network host Rich Eisen, who has done the event in his suit for charity since 2010.
And, somewhat unbelievably, the commish posted a time of 5.41 seconds, beating the mark of six prospects, all offensive linemen. That's pretty embarrassing.

Not since 1995 has a running back heard his name called at the NFL draft before any other player, but Saquon Barkley reportedly has a shot at being the Cleveland Browns' man at No. 1 overall.

Mayfield defends Orlando Brown, Lamar Jackson

Baker Mayfield is more used to defending himself rather than others, but the brash Heisman winner spoke out in support of both teammate Orlando Brown and fellow quarterback Lamar Jackson.
"When are you going to watch Orlando Brown run 40 yards down the field?" Mayfield said after Brown's historically bad combine, according to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle. "Never. Look at his film. He gave up zero sacks last year."

Run, Rich, run

NFL Network broadcaster Rich Eisen clocked in at an unofficial time of 5.97 in his annual running of the 40-yard dash. Far more impressive than the time, of course, is the money raised for the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
