Chiefs' Andy Reid endorses Jackson as QB prospect: 'He's pretty good'

Andy Reid knows a thing or two about quarterbacks and the Kansas City Chiefs coach said Wednesday he wouldn't ask Louisville's Lamar Jackson to change positions in the NFL.

"Yeah, I think you probably want to try it there (at quarterback) and see," Reid told reporters at the NFL Scouting Combine, via Dan Parr of NFL.com. "He's pretty good."

Despite the many accolades Jackson accumulated in college, including a Heisman Trophy, not everyone is on board with him as a quarterback prospect. Former NFL general manager and current ESPN analyst Bill Polian said recently Jackson should transition to wide receiver, where he can take advantage of his speed. Polian also opined the 6-foot-3 Jackson isn't big enough to play quarterback, or accurate enough as a thrower.

"Yeah, I'm not much on that," Reid said of the Polian critique. "I want to bring him in. Let's exhaust that other thing that we know he's good at and see. I'm just saying in general. This is a general statement: Let's get him in and let him wing it a little bit and see how he does. We'll be able to fit some things in there I'm sure."

Even with the endorsement, Kansas City isn't a likely landing spot for Jackson. The Chiefs traded up in the first round last year to select Patrick Mahomes, who's set to inherit starting duties in 2018.

Jackson and the rest of the quarterback prospects are slated to go through drills Saturday.
