Travis Kelce praises Bears' Matt Nagy: 'He could be Doug Pederson 2.0'
Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce clearly holds former offensive coordinator Matt Nagy in high regard.
Kelce just watched Doug Pederson, Nagy's predecessor in Kansas City, raise the Lombardi Trophy in just his second season leading the Philadelphia Eagles, and envisions Nagy finding similar success as the Chicago Bears' new head coach.
"I think Matt's a hell of a coach," Kelce told Larry Mayer of ChicagoBears.com. "I think he could be Doug Pederson 2.0, to be honest, especially with the quarterback."
It took Pederson only two seasons to turn sophomore quarterback Carson Wentz into an MVP candidate, and he won the Super Bowl with Nick Foles under center as an injury replacement.
Nagy became Chiefs offensive coordinator in 2016, following Pederson’s three-year stint. He oversaw Alex Smith’s career-best season and rookie running back Kareem Hunt’s league-leading 1,327 rushing yards in 2017.
The Bears' offense is led by sophomore quarterback Mitchell Trubisky and the young running back duo of Jordan Howard and Tarik Cohen.
In Chicago, Nagy lacks a player of Kelce’s caliber at tight end, but he has the three-time Pro Bowler's full support.
"I'd like to see him have all the success possible just because of how much I loved him as a coach," Kelce said.
