Chiefs release Darrelle Revis
The Kansas City Chiefs have released veteran cornerback Darrelle Revis, the team announced.
Signed to a two-year contract in November, Revis played in just five games for Kansas City, making 11 tackles and defending two passes. He also played in the team's playoff loss to Tennessee, unfortunately batting the now-famous Marcus Mariota pass that the quarterback himself caught and advanced into the end zone for a touchdown.
The veteran was due an $8.8-million roster bonus in March, so this move does not come as a shock. The Chiefs will shed $21.5 million in cap space between his release and the Alex Smith trade, according to ESPN's Field Yates.
Turning 33 this summer, Revis has enjoyed an illustrious NFL career. He is a seven-time Pro Bowler and has been selected as a first-team All-Pro four times. The defensive back said last month he wants to continue playing rather than retire.
