A couple believed to be Brighton & Hove Albion striker Glenn Murray and his wife Tracey have been arrested on suspicion of tax fraud, reports BBC Sport.

The pair are understood to have evaded taxes and taken unlawful advantage of the public revenue, leaving HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) short of £1.1 million.

HMRC visited the couple's home in Brighton on Tuesday morning and seized their computers, as well as business and personal records to assist an ongoing investigation.

"The couple were interviewed by HMRC and have both been released under investigation," said an HRMC spokesperson.

"The man was arrested on suspicion of evading Income Tax and VAT, and cheating the public revenue. The woman was arrested on suspicion of evading Income Tax, and cheating the public revenue."

Strapping frontman Murray, 34, was a journeyman player until he first turned up at Brighton in 2008. He made 136 appearances before being signed by Crystal Palace in time for the 2011-12 season. In the 2016-17 campaign, Murray was brought back to the Seagulls on loan from Bournemouth and had his stay made permanent in January 2017.

The Cumbrian is Brighton's leading scorer this term with seven tallies across all competitions.
