Jacksonville Jaguars defensive coordinator Todd Wash said Thursday he isn't planning to deploy his best cornerback, Jalen Ramsey, against the New England Patriots' biggest receiving weapon, tight end Rob Gronkowski, in the AFC Championship.

"In a basketball game, I think we would. But Jalen is a corner and we're going to run our system," Wash told John Oehser of Jaguars.com.

"I think the last thing you can do is to go into a game like this and you try and reinvent the wheel. ... Jalen is a good corner and he plays against wide receivers."

Safeties and linebackers all over the league have tried to shut down Gronkowksi over the years but those in the former category have proven to be too small while those in the latter category have proven to be too slow.

With New England sporting a thin group of wide receivers, many speculated Jacksonville would put the ultra athletic Ramsey on Gronkowski, who led the Pats in receiving yardage and touchdowns during the regular season.

Ramsey is listed on the Jaguars' official website at 6-foot-2 and 208 pounds, four inches shorter and 57 pounds lighter than what Gronkowksi is listed at on the Patriots' official website.
