Steelers will not bring back OC Todd Haley
The Pittsburgh Steelers will not retain offensive coordinator Todd Haley for the 2018 season, head coach Mike Tomlin announced Wednesday:
I have made the decision to not renew the contract for offensive coordinator Todd Haley. I would like to thank Todd for his contributions to our offense the past six years, and we wish him the best in his coaching future.
Haley's contract expired at the end of the season. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that a strained relationship between Haley and Ben Roethlisberger contributed to the decision.
The 50-year-old became the Steelers offensive coordinator in February 2012. Haley previously operated as the head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs from 2009-2011, posting a 19-26 record in three seasons before his dismissal.
Steelers quarterbacks coach Randy Fichtner is considered the favorite to be promoted to offensive coordinator, according to Rapoport.
Some believe Steelers offensive line coach Mike Munchak will also be in the running for the vacant position. Munchak has previous head coaching experience with the Tennessee Titans (2011-13).
