Jets rule out McCown for season with broken hand

New York Jets quarterback Josh McCown will miss the rest of the campaign due to a broken left hand that requires surgery, the team announced.
McCown suffered the injury in Sunday's loss to the Denver Broncos, and with only three games left, it appeared all but a formality that he'd sit out the rest of the schedule.
McCown gave the Jets steady quarterback play in his first year with the team, throwing for 18 touchdowns and nine interceptions while compiling a 94.5 quarterback rating.
With the 38-year-old on the shelf, Bryce Petty will start for New York against the New Orleans Saints on Dec. 17. Christian Hackenberg will serve as his backup.
