Report: Yankees 'weighing trades' for Ellsbury, Headley
The New York Yankees may not be done yet.
One day after reportedly acquiring reigning National League MVP Giancarlo Stanton in a blockbuster trade with the Miami Marlins, they're "weighing trades" for outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury and third baseman Chase Headley, reports Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports.
Stanton's addition to an outfielder that already contains Aaron Judge, Aaron Hicks, and Brett Gardner pretty much makes Ellsbury expendable considering he's set to earn more than $21 million next season.
Ellsbury apparently doesn't want to leave New York and has a full no-trade clause. He plans to win back his starting job in center field, which currently belongs to Hicks.
The 34-year-old veteran appeared in 112 games last season, hitting .264/.348/.402 with seven home runs, 20 doubles, 39 RBIs, and 22 stolen bases.
Headley, 33, is in the final season of his deal and is set to make $13 million. He appeared in 147 games last season - splitting his time between third, first, and DH - and hit .273/.352/.406 with 30 doubles and 61 RBIs after struggling to a .706 OPS in the first half.
