Cardinals' Arians: Johnson could return by Thanksgiving at 'earliest'

Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians revealed Wednesday that star running back David Johnson could return by Thanksgiving at the "earliest," according to Alex Marvez of SiriusXM NFL Radio.

Johnson injured his left wrist during a Week 1 loss to the Detroit Lions and underwent surgery. He was initially slated for a two-to-three-month recovery.

If his progress follows Arians' timeline, he'll be back for a Week 12 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Johnson told reporters he received his cast Wednesday and didn't know when he'd be able to play again.

Johnson emerged as one of the defining stars of the 2016 season, earning first-team All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors, and his absence has been profoundly felt by the Cardinals' offense.

Arizona traded for Adrian Peterson on Tuesday and subsequently released Chris Johnson.
