Report: Watt underwent successful surgery, suffered no ligament damage

Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt underwent successful surgery on Monday to repair a tibial plateau fracture suffered in Sunday night's loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, a source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Watt did not suffer any ligament damage, though he is expected to have a lengthy recovery and will not play the remainder of the season. No timeline has been announced for Watt's recovery.

This is the second season in a row that Watt has been hit with a season-ending injury, as a back injury cut his 2016 year short.

The Texans also lost linebacker Whitney Mercilus for the season with a pectoral injury Sunday night.
