Unnamed Cubs scout puts official 2016 World Series ring up for auction

Dennis Wierzbicki / USA TODAY Sports

A piece of Chicago Cubs history can now be yours - for a cool $30,000.

An anonymous scout with the Cubs listed his World Series ring on Leland's Auctions, making it the first official piece of jewelry from the club's championship run to reach the secondary market, courtesy of Chris De Luca of the Chicago Sun-Times.

The ring, which appears to have been initially listed on Sept. 27, opened with a cheeky $1,908 starting price. After 21 bids, though, it's already going for a lofty $30,272.

That doesn't exactly mean the seller is in for a massive payday, however.

As De Luca notes, the Cubs sent an internal memo to its non-player employees after handing out the rings, warning the recipients that the organization owns the right to buy back any on-the-market rings for a cheap $1. It is unclear if the club appears to have exercised that right as of yet, however.
