Eric Reid calls VP Pence's walkout a 'PR stunt'
Eric Reid said he sees through Vice President Mike Pence's heavily publicized walkout from Sunday's game between the Indianapolis Colts and the San Francisco 49ers.
Reid noted that Pence must have known that many of the 49ers have been protesting the oppression of black people and other disadvantaged groups in America by kneeling during the anthem.
"This looks like a PR stunt to me. He knew our team has had the most players protest," the safety told reporters after the game, according to Jennifer Lee Chan of NinerNation.com. "He knew that we were probably going to do it again.
"This is what systemic oppression looks like. A man with power comes to the game, tweets a couple of things out, and leaves the game with an attempt to thwart our efforts. Based on the information I have, that's the assumption I’ve made."
Pence tweeted that he left because he would not "dignify any event that disrespects our soldiers, our flag, or our national anthem" after 23 players on the 49ers took a knee during "The Star-Spangled Banner."
His decision to walk out was backed by President Donald Trump, who tweeted that he'd ordered Pence and his wife to leave if any players didn't stand for the anthem.
