There's no shortage of dingers in the desert for J.D. Martinez.
In the third inning Thursday, Martinez caught all of Colorado Rockies hurler Chris Rusin's 1-1 offering, deposing it well into the stands in right-center field at Chase Field. The home run, a career-best 39th for Martinez on the season, is also his 23rd in 48 games since joining the Arizona Diamondbacks in a trade from the Detroit Tigers on July 18.
His second-half outburst will go down in Arizona's record books, as he overtakes former Diamondbacks outfielder Luis Gonzalez for the most home runs after the All-Star break.
