New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman will miss the entire 2017 campaign with a knee injury, the club confirmed Saturday.

An MRI revealed earlier in the day that Edelman suffered a complete tear of the ACL in his right knee, a source told Albert Breer of the MMQB.com.

Edelman sustained the injury on a non-contact play during Friday's preseason win over the Detroit Lions.

While the Patriots still boast an embarrassment of riches on offense, Edelman has been the team's most reliable receiver over the past four years and is Tom Brady's go-to guy in critical situations.

New England will likely adjust by spreading Edelman's targets between Brandin Cooks, Danny Amendola, Malcolm Mitchell, and Chris Hogan, as well further utilizing its talented and versatile running backs.

However, none are capable of dominating from all over the field like Edelman, who caught 98 passes for 1,106 yards and three touchdowns in 2016 and added another 342 yards over three playoff games.
