Report: Liverpool may allow Origi departure before deadline

Liverpool could grant the sale of Divock Origi before the transfer window closes on Aug. 31 as the Belgian seeks regular minutes.

With the World Cup being staged in Russia next year, the 22-year-old wants to strut his stuff on the senior stage to remind his national team manager Roberto Martinez of his striking credentials. He last took the pitch for his country in a friendly against Spain in September 2016.

There was previously little indication Jurgen Klopp would allow Origi to leave Merseyside, but now the forward will be sold if Liverpool can land its targets in the final week of the transfer window, reports The Telegraph's Matt Law. One player featuring highly on Klopp's wishlist is the versatile Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who apparently turned down a lucrative new contract at Arsenal amid interest from the Reds and Chelsea.

Origi is already well down the pecking order in Liverpool. Summer signings Mohamed Salah and Dominic Solanke were in the matchday squad in each of the four competitive fixtures to begin the season, while Origi was left off the 18-man throng that welcomed Hoffenheim to Anfield on Wednesday.

Before this season, Origi was never prolific in front of goal. The previous two league campaigns yielded five and seven goals, respectively, and he was infamously named in L'Equipe's worst XI of the season when he spent the 2014-15 term on loan with first club Lille.

Despite his travails, Tottenham Hotspur is understood to be on the lookout for an extra forward following the struggles of last summer's arrival Vincent Janssen, and would consider Origi. He's been of interest to the north London lot in the past.

Klopp has regularly been vocal in his support for Origi, but would reward the marksman's patience with an exit that should enhance his chances of travelling to Russia in 2018.
