Michael Vick once left the football world in awe of his velocity and ability to escape the pocket with tremendous acceleration. The 37-year-old now sees his best qualities in Kansas City Chiefs rookie quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Kansas City traded up 17 spots with the Buffalo Bills to select Mahomes 10th overall in the 2017 NFL Draft, and the former Texas Tech standout is expected to eventually supplant Alex Smith as the face of the franchise.

Vick raved about Mahomes' skill set, believing that he can develop into one of the league's premier talents.

"I've seen it firsthand. I've seen Patrick Mahomes do some things that I wish I could have done with my arm in terms of throwing on the run. And I was one of the best at it, outside of the pocket, being mobile," Vick said recently to Colin Cowherd of Fox Sports 1. "But this kid can make some throws that are going to shock the world. And I'm so anxious to see him play down the road, in the future at some point. But right now he's going through the phases of maturation and learning the system and becoming a complete quarterback.

"He has a ways to go, but this kid is going to do some special things."

Mahomes will likely be tethered to the bench for long stretches of his rookie season but it's not difficult to envision living up to Vick's vision in the future.
