Former Texas quarterback Chris Simms revealed Thursday he accepted money while playing for the Longhorns.

Simms said he took money from boosters, claiming that it happens everywhere and it's "stupid" to think it doesn't.

"Not the boosters that you would see around like on a normal basis, they weren't going to do things like that," Simms said on "The Dan Patrick Show." "They were too a part of the program. It would be the random booster that you might see only one time, right, but he would find you that one time and he might have 10 football jerseys for you to sign real quick, and you'd sign it, and then he'd give you, 'Hey, thanks for this. I appreciate that.' And he'd give you a $100 handshake."

The 36-year-old also said he thinks schools should be paying football players.

"I do think so, to a degree," Simms said. "Listen, they have to do something, I think, financially to help out the college players to a degree."

Simms played for the Longhorns for four seasons and threw for more than 7,000 yards before heading to the NFL as a third-round draft pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He also had stints with the Tennessee Titans and Denver Broncos before calling it a career.
