Jurgen Klopp insisted Liverpool is under no financial pressure to sell Philippe Coutinho following reports of the club spurning a €100-million bid from Barcelona for the Brazilian.

"Liverpool is not a club that has to sell players. That is set in stone. So what they pay in the end doesn't matter," Klopp told Sky Germany.

"From a financial standpoint, there is no price limit to let him go. No price at which we are ready to give in.

"Our goal is to have the best possible team. So we want to keep our guys and add new ones. That is our plan."

Barcelona's interest in Coutinho was heightened following Neymar's world-record €222-million switch to Paris Saint-Germain last week. It's understood the €100-million offer from the Blaugrana was the club's second approach for Coutinho, and although Liverpool now considers the matter closed, pundit Guillem Balague told Sky Sports he expects the Catalan giant to increase its efforts to sign the ex-Inter Milan attacker.

"They will try to come back because they've put a lot of effort into this one" Balague said.

"They think they have a chance and that chance is that the player wants to go to Barcelona, but it seems like that will not be enough."

Balague was likely referring to Coutinho's apparent sentiments on Monday, when Sky Sports' Kaveh Solhekol reported the 25-year-old would be open to a move to Barcelona if "a deal can be done amicably with Liverpool."

Liverpool begins the new Premier League season with a trip to Watford on Saturday. The match could be the first look at Coutinho operating behind a front-three of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, and Mohamed Salah in a competitive fixture.
