Colts' Hooker opens camp on PUP list after hamstring injury

Brian Spurlock / USA TODAY Sports

The Indianapolis Colts have placed safety Malik Hooker on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list to begin training camp after the rookie injured his hamstring during his conditioning test Monday, according to Kevin Bowen of the team's website.

It's not the start the Colts wanted for their first-round pick and a player they likely hope will become the centerpiece of their rebuilt defense. Hooker has yet to participate in any offseason practices, missing spring OTAs after undergoing surgery in January.

But it's no reason for the Colts to panic. Players can come off the PUP list at any time during training camp, and it's possible Hooker will miss only a few practices.
