Leipzig's Forsberg ready to make 'next step' in career, says agent

There appears to be trouble brewing between RB Leipzig officials and Emil Forsberg's agent, who insists his client is prepared to take the "next step" in his career following a successful debut in the Bundesliga last season.

Liverpool has been the club most commonly linked with a move for Forsberg despite the fact Leipzig signed him to a new contract until 2022.

His agent, Hasan Cetinkaya, was reminded of his client's commitment to Leipzig when club CEO Oliver Mintzlaff offered to send him a copy of Forsberg's contract, "if he's forgotten how long Emil is under contract here," according to ESPN's Stephan Uersfeld.

Mintzlaff's remark appears to have only exacerbated the situation as Cetinkaya hinted that perhaps it's time Forsberg moves on.

"I've never experienced an arrogant attitude like this," Cetinkaya told Bild, as translated by Uersfeld. "I know how long Emil is under contract at Leipzig. And I also know what he owes to the club. But it's a fact: Emil wants to make the next step in his career."

Forsberg is predicted to draw heavy interest following a season that saw the Swedish international compile 19 assists and score eight goals in helping his team secure a second-place position behind champion Bayern Munich.

In January, Cetinkaya revealed that he had been contacted by a number of "big clubs," and stressed that Leipzig's place in next season's Champions League would have little impact on Forsberg's decision over whether to leave this summer.
