In Germany's top flight, the rich keep getting richer.

Look no further than Bundesliga behemoth Bayern Munich, which on Wednesday signed French international midfielder Corentin Tolisso from Lyon.

Bayern announced the news with a statement on its website, adding that the 22-year-old joins the club on a five-year deal through 2022.

Lyon revealed shortly thereafter that the fee for Tolisso was €41.5 million with an additional €6 million in potential performance-related bonuses.

A central midfielder by trade, able to play either deep or in an attacking role, Tolisso will add versatility to Carlo Ancelotti's squad and easily slot in for retired talisman Xabi Alonso.

Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge agrees, saying, "We are very happy that we were able to sign this young and highly interesting player despite FC Bayern's strong competition from abroad.

"Corentin Tolisso was the dream midfield player of our manager Carlo Ancelotti."

For Les Gones this season, Tolisso was a revelation, bagging 14 goals while registering seven assists across all competitions. A product of Lyon's famed academy, Tolisso was also named to UEFA's Europa League Squad of the Season as Bruno Genesio's lot made it to the semi-final stage before bowing out to Ajax.

"I had a wonderful time with Olympique Lyon, and for that, I am very grateful. Now I'm looking forward to playing at one of the best clubs in Europe. I have set myself high goals with FC Bayern. Today is a great day for me," an ebullient Tolisso added.
