World Championship: Marner carries Canada past Finns, U.S. edges Russia

Here's what happened on Day 12 of the World Hockey Championship in Paris, France and Cologne, Germany.

Canada 5, Finland 2

• Mitch Marner was Canada's offensive catalyst in this contest, tallying two goals and an assist. He now has 10 points in seven games, tying him for sixth place in the tournament scoring race.
• With the victory, Canada finishes the round robin with a record of 6-0-1-0, good enough for first place in Group B. It'll take on Germany in the quarterfinal.
• Calvin Pickard collected his third win of the tournament in goal, finishing the round robin with a sparking .932 save percentage and a 1.48 GAA.
• Colton Parayko - proving himself to be a valuable late addition to Canada - collected a goal and a helper while logging over 22 minutes of ice on the back end.
• As for the Finns, they finish with a record of 2-2-1-2, good for fourth in Group B. They'll cross over to play the winners of Group A, the United States, in the quarters.

United States 5, Russia 3

• The U.S. rallied three times in its final preliminary-round game to win its sixth consecutive contest and hand Russia its first loss at the tournament.
• Anders Lee scored the eventual game-winner on the power play with about seven minutes left.
• Kevin Hayes' second goal of the game - and the period - knotted the contest at 3-3 with 2:17 to go in the middle stanza.
• Brock Nelson scored a goal and added two assists to lead all skaters with three points.
• Nikita Gusev opened the scoring and tallied twice for Russia.
• The U.S. outshot Russia 16-3 in the first period.
• The American squad (6-0-0-1) finished the preliminary round atop the Group A standings, one point ahead of Russia (5-1-0-1).
