Watch: Benches warned after Sale throws behind Machado

Bob DeChiara / USA TODAY Sports

The bad blood between the Boston Red Sox and Baltimore Orioles is still boiling.

With two outs in the top of the first inning Tuesday, Red Sox starter Chris Sale threw a 98-mph fastball behind Orioles third baseman Manny Machado with the first pitch of the at-bat.

Both teams were immediately warned by home plate umpire D.J. Reyburn.

The pitch was likely in retaliation to the Orioles hitting Red Sox star outfielder Mookie Betts late in Monday's game.

Sale proceeded to strike out Machado to end the inning, and returned to the dugout showing plenty of emotion.
