Watch: Match abandoned after Bastia supporters attack Lyon players

Even in football, life imitates art.

It would appear that Bastia's predilection for on-pitch disciplinary issues has found its way into the hearts of its Bastia 1905 Ultras group after fans of the lowly Corsican club invaded the pitch ahead of Sunday's match at the Armand Cesari to fight several Lyon players. The game kicked off but was abandoned at the end of the first half after supporters returned to the pitch and attacked Anthony Lopes.

Seems monkey chants at Mario Balotelli in January weren't enough for the nefarious lot, as video shows a fan confronting Les Gones' winger Memphis Depay and second-choice shot-stopper Mathieu Gorgelin during warm-ups.

"Bastia fans kicked balls into (Mathieu) Gorgelin’s goal," said defender Jeremy Berthod, courtesy of the Guardian. "He and Memphis (Depay) tried to move them out of the way before being attacked by many SC Bastia fans.

"The players then huddled together. They and the staff are very shocked. The moment it happened, none of them wanted to come out of the dressing room and play this match."

The pre-match festivities mirrored the play during the reverse fixture at the Stade des Lumieres in November when Bastia captain Yannick Cahuzac and Jean-Louis Leca were sent off in a frenzied tilt where Alexandre Lacazette was accused of a dive that resulted in Lyon's opener.

This incident comes days after supporters from Lyon and Besiktas were involved in fights during a Europa League match, which forced several supporters of the French side to seek refuge on the pitch.

Destined for a return to France's second-tier, Bastia currently sits bottom of the Ligue 1 standings on 28 points, three points adrift of Nancy and safety. A potential point deduction for fan conduct would all but book the Corsicans a date with the drop.
