Watch: Simmons applies seemingly impossible tag
In a golden age of offensive shortstops, Los Angeles Angels defensive maven Andrelton Simmons may be overlooked. He showed Saturday night why this should not be the case.
With the Seattle Mariners threatening to extend their modest 2-1 lead in the top of the third inning, an innocuous Mitch Haniger ground ball led to one of the most astounding outs of the season. Jean Segura rounded second attempting to advance, only for Simmons to receive a high throw from Jefry Marte.
The electric tag may even rival Javier Baez's celebratory tag from the World Baseball Classic. In terms of sheer improbability, this is a reasonable assertion.
