Jones calls Cormier's weigh-in 'one of the dirtiest things I've seen in sports'

Daniel Cormier's messy weigh-in didn't go unnoticed by Jon Jones.

On Friday, "DC" needed two attempts to hit the 205-pound limit for his light heavyweight title defense against Anthony Johnson at Saturday's UFC 210, but his prompt shedding of the extra 1.2 pounds within two minutes had many wondering whether he'd pushed down on the towel held in front of his naked person for the scale to tip in his favor.

Speaking to the media later that afternoon, Jones was naturally asked what he thought of the fiasco, and didn't make any effort to conceal his astonishment, not only at how Cormier handled himself, but at the New York State Athletic Commission's purportedly passive stance on the matter.

"That was absolutely nuts," Jones said, per Marc Raimondi of MMA Fighting. "I couldn't believe what I was witnessing. I watched the guy. If you focus on his hands, you can see him looking down and like, balancing out his weight just right to make 205. What a clever trick. Very dishonest of him.

"The crazy thing is that it was allowed to happen. I would imagine there has to be some type of commission or something to go back and see this blatant foul play and address it. Nobody addressed it. They just basically got away with one of the dirtiest things I've seen in sports."

Cormier has denied he nefariously used the towel, claiming he'd merely held it in front of his naked person to keep his private parts from being exposed to those present at the weigh-ins.

Jones and Cormier clashed over two years ago at UFC 182, where "Bones" defended the light heavyweight crown in a one-sided decision. The pair have since seen several rematches fall through, and even with Jones currently serving a one-year ban for a doping violation, the fire of their rivalry still clearly burns bright.

The 29-year-old Jones will be sitting cageside as Cormier meets Johnson in Saturday's main event at Buffalo's KeyBank Center.
